River City by Margaret Ryan I love the documentary and watched it at the Philharmonic, it is reminiscent of a Liverpool lost yet still here in our hearts and minds. The river flows through us, the liver birds remain forever symbolic of our great port. The memories of New Brighton with families all meeting up at the Pier Head and catching the ferries to and fro were wonderful. The soundtack was brilliant and captures the sadness of hard times and also the hope of looking forwards to a better future. My great grandparents Mr and Mrs O'Donnell were in the film as a still photograph, (the old couple).I remember her being just like that, dressed in long black dresses and a shawl. Her house was like an Aladins cave full of treasure chests and photos of a bygone age. My great grandad was a seafarer and he is pictured with his cloth cap on. Liverpool is a tough city and has taken a lot of knocks but you can't keep a great city down for long. Like its people it keeps on fighting, struggling to survive in precarious times but never forgets where it came from. Enter your story Back to main stories page |
