Hello, as an admirer of Mr Davies I wonder if it would be ok to post something that might be of general interest to visitors on this site, and possibly to Mr Davies himself. Trading as an independent film production company ( a small one run out of a semi in Colchester ) I am working on a documentary that uses only footage from archive newsreel - from Pathe / Movietone / Gaumont Graphic etc. The subject matter is social history as viewed through British football and focusing on visual information that looks closely at street / crowd scenes, fashion, industrial backdrops etc - as much as it does on the action on the pitch. I have self funded by way of selling assets all of my films and books over a 10 year period, it's been tough, but was the only way to keep artistic control. A 138 minute docu 'Made in Colchester' which has a poetic backdrop, music soundtrack and multi dubbed soundscape ( in part ) was released in October 2008. It occured to me that there is some common ground although my stuff does not match up to the quality of 'Of time and the City'.
